Massage & Coronavirus:

 My massage therapy practice is temporarily closed because it’s not safe to give massage to multiple people right now. The precautions a massage therapist would take in a hospital, such as wearing a mask, gloves & gown, are not available & should be reserved for health care workers dealing with the sick & infected. Too, the public is often put off or disturbed by protective garb, & it’s too cumbersome for some kinds of therapy. This is to protect you, me & our community. It is based on the fact that we now have known community transmission in our area, & we are currently not able to test enough people fast enough to see the real extent of COVID-19 in the San Diego area. In 2 weeks I’ll re-evaluate the situation. The coronavirus that causes COVID-19 can be transmitted by people who are actively sick, pre-symptomatic (will eventually become ill but aren’t yet) & asymptomatic (carrying the virus but will not become sick). The incubation period is long, ranging from 2 to 14 days. Because it is new, none of us have immunity. For these reasons, I cannot give you 100% assurance that you won’t be exposed to the virus by receiving a massage. No matter how much I wash my hands & arms & disinfect the massage studio, when I’m working closely with others there is a chance I could unknowingly pick it up from them. And then it would be possible to transmit it to you. Appointments will resume as soon as it’s safe & reasonable to do so.
